What makes the best monitor?

  • Screen Resolution is the display area in pixels, in width × height-pixels. A simple definition of resolution is showing the numeric value of the height which may be 1080p, 1440p, or 4K. These days a vast majority of computer displays have a resolution of 1080, with 1440p 4K is also becoming a standard gaming resolution. There are also some uncommon monitor resolutions 2560 × 1440 (1440p or 2k) and 1600 × 900. . You can also see 5K resolution monitors in the market but they haven’t become too common yet.
  • Contrast Ratio is the difference in the intensity of light between the bright and dark extremes. Higher the contrast ration better the image is.
Computer monitors often have two separate contrast ratio measurements:
active/dynamic contrast ratio: Active/dynamic contrast ratio measures the brightest and darkest colours over a period of time
static contrast ratio: Static measures them at a single point in time. Extra attention should be given to static contrast ration when purchasing a new monitor.
  • Viewing angle means the maximum angle you can view the monitor at for the image to still be colour accurate. The angle is measured from one side to the other and viewing the monitor straight on is 0 degrees. So a monitor with a 160-degree viewing angle has acceptable colour accuracy when viewed 80 degrees off-centre.
  • Video input also play an important role when choosing a monitor. Your computer may have VGA, HDMI, DVI or Display type or output. This output type should match the monitor inputs. HDMI has become a standard input for any modern monitor. Please make sure to choose the right input type before deciding to purchase a monitor.
